Doyle at Home

The October 13 Doyle at Home auction will offer a wide selection of quality American, English and Continental furnishings and art with moderate pre-sale estimates. A special section of the sale will be devoted to fine furniture, decorations and paintings of the 20th century. Highlighting the selection of MODERN FURNITURE will be a chest of drawers designed by Piero Fornasetti decorated with Renaissance architectural motifs. Also featured are examples from the elegant Thin Edge series of rosewood furnishings designed by George Nelson in the 1950s and manufactured by Herman Miller. Among the other designers represented in the sale are Tommi Parzinger, James Mont, Charles Eames, Alvar Aalto, Philip Laverne, Paul McCobb, Eero Saarinen, and Santiagio Calatrava, architect of the futuristic PATH terminal for the World Trade Center site. The MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART section includes American, European and Latin American works. There is an interesting group of sculpture including a piece in resin with colored dyes by Leo Amino, a Mini-David by Miguel Berrocal, two works by Roy Gussow, a monumental wood sculpture by Mike Nevelson, and a sphere by Arnaldo Pomodoro. Represented are well-known American artists such as Jane Freilicher, Lester Johnson, Alfred Leslie and Mark Tobey. Other highlights include unusual works such as Surreal paintings of flowers by the American artist working in Paris, Leon Kelly; and two paintings using lead by the California painter, Eric Orr. Latin American artists include Pablo O'Higgins and Francisco Zuniga.
