The Estate of Ambassador Gerardo E. Wills

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Gerardo E. Wills completed his International Law and Economics degrees at the Central University (UCV) in Caracas. He then pursued post-graduate studies in International Relations at the same University. He started his Diplomatic career in 1964 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Caracas. His first foreign assignment was at the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington, D.C. (1964-1968), then at the Embassy in Kingston, Jamaica (1970-1971) and from there he went back to Washington, D.C. to work for the Organization of American States (OAE) (1971-1973). At that point he goes back to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Caracas with the rank of Counselor to work at the office of the Vice Minister (1974). Not much latter, he decided to further his studies at the of the Inter-American Defense College at Fort Lesley J. MacNair in Washington, D.C. in 1978. Letter he was assigned in Tokyo, Japan, as the new Deputy Chief of Mission at the Venezuelan Embassy (1980). In 1985 is when he reaches the rank of Ambassador, subsequently becoming the Director General of the Administrative Services Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Caracas in 1986. The following year he becomes assistant to the president of the Venezuelan National Congress (1987-1991). At this date he returns to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Director General for Consular Affairs. In 1991 he become the Venezuelan Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark and by 1995 he moves to Sofia, Bulgaria as well to Belgrade, Yugoslavia as Venezuelan Ambassador. In 1993 he was accepted as a member of Georgetown World Leadership, Georgetown University., Washington, D.C. He has been decorated by the Governments of Brazil, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Kingdom of Netherlands, Kingdom of Denmark, Bulgaria, and Yugoslavia.
