20th Century Decorative Arts & Design

The origins of the poster can be traced back to Europe in the last decades of the 19th century when it became a hugely popular mass informational tool. They depicted the rapidly changing modern world and reflected a variety of social, political and cultural moments, and have since become a ubiquitous part of our visual culture. From large advertising billboard campaigns to event and exhibition posters, they are rarely out of our field of vision. Illustrated by lots coming under the hammer in our upcoming 20th Century Decorative Arts & Design Sale on 3 June.
