Pair of impressive full plate hand-colored tintypes of Union soldier John Dumas and his wife. Uncased.
Dumas, of the 2nd Ohio Infantry, was captured at the Battle of Chickamauga and later died of dysentery at Andersonville.
Likely period enlargements, these portraits are unusually well-executed for the practice and feature delicate hand-tinting. Enlargements such as these were often done to memorialize the deceased.
Lovely remembrance of a soldier who perished in the the Civil War's most infamous prison.
