Vintage and in great condition, this is a 1970s "platinum" label award (i.e. non-RIAA) made by Disc Award Ltd. celebrating Elton John's Greatest Hits album selling over one million copies. Released in 1974, it contained hit after hit of classic Elton John tracks. It went to #1 on the UK Album chart, the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and also the Canada, Australia and other territory charts. It was the biggest selling album in the U.S. in 1975 and was Elton's first RIAA Diamond seller (10 million sold) as well.

As of 2016 the album has been certified for 17 million units by the RIAA (see the RIAA certification history of this very successful album in image). Note: This is not a RIAA award.

It is presented to Elton's long-time drummer Nigel Olsson, who has played on almost all Elton John albums and tours since 1969.

This award is in VG condition, despite its 47-year age. Its' "platinum" record is bright and shiny, and the glass and black velvet matte are in excellent condition. It has some frame wear including a spot of paint loss on the top rail. 

Notes on the condition of all vintage record awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20- to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
