[FURNITURE]. [CAMPAIGN BED]. Empire Portable “Lit en Bateau” Officer's Campaign Bed. [France, ca. 1805]. A well preserved, extremely high quality officer's portable campaign bed. “Lit en Bateau” meaning, 'in the form of a boat.” Unusual for its luxury is both decor and size. The bed features beautiful flamed rosewood sideboards and solid mahogany columns capped with fire gilt ormolu mounts. Approximately 6 x 4 x 2’. Original type reproduction mattress and box spring with Lyonnaise silk coverlet and bolster pillows embroidered with the Imperial bee. With both the fine appointments and generous size, this was surely the bed of a higher ranking officer in the French army. The three ormolu plaques on the bed represent two figures from Greek mythology: Pheme, who announces Glory on her trumpet and Apollo, racing to victory in his chariot. Research could reveal the original owner of this museum quality piece. One panel in the back has a crack. An incredible find! Third Party Shipping Required.
