Description
[SNUFF BOX]. [BONAPARTE, Napoleon (1769-1821), subject]. First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte Snuff Box. [France, ca. early 1800s]. This is a rare larger tortoise shell snuff box with pull-off lid is from the First Consul period (1799-1804). Approximately 3 ⅛ in diameter, ⅞” high. Pull-off lid contains a hand-colored engraving of Napoleon in his red uniform in brass frame under mica. There is some damp-staining on the hand colored engraving, but the detail of both face and uniform is remarkable nonetheless. The mica cover is generally worn with small cracks. Good. A rarely encountered souvenir of Napoleon from his time as First Consul.
