VERY FINE CIVIL WAR HENRY RIFLE.
Item Details
Description
Cal. 44. S# 6684. This rifle was made mid-1864, at height of Henry's demand among soldiers who could afford the most modern repeating rifle of its day with 15 shot capacity. Standard configuration, 24" octagonal barrel stamped "HENRYS PATENT. OCT. 16, 1860" / "MANUFACT'D BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT." & SN "6684", integral magazine tube, pivoting muzzle section for loading, folding long range tang sight, fixed notched rear sight, and German silver blade front sight. Stocked in oil finished slightly burled walnut, brass crescent buttplate with trap for 4-piece steel & brass cleaning rod, "Henry bump" just under inset sling swivel. This is a beautiful survivor retaining original blue on barrel, smooth fine brass frame. Matching S# 6684 observed on barrel, frame tang, stock, and buttplate. CONDITION: fine overall, all original & matching, barrel has strong areas of blue, especially in protected areas, balance mottled plum/gray patina, brass is smooth light mustard patina, sharp edges. Hammer retains muted case colors, lever & trigger have traces of finish, overall a smooth gray/brown patina, light pitting. Stock is fine with scattered cosmetic blemishes, the 4" long tang sight has made small dent in top of comb. Mechanically fine, strong crisp rifled bore. Most Civil War produced Henry's saw hard use and rarely have any finish. Accompanying brass mounted sling is very good. 4-piece cleaning rod is very good. (01-25327/JS). ANTIQUE. $25,000-30,000.
