Cal. 44. S# 55118. Bbl. 8", round with New York address. Six-shot round rebated cyl. with naval scene roll engraving. Blue and case-colored finish with brass trigger guard. 1 piece walnut grip with remnants of cartouches visible on both panels. Action is cut for shoulder stock attachment. Bbl., frame and grip straps have matching numbers. Wedge has non-matching number "0656". Cyl. has non-matching number "4427". Mfg. 1863, during the American Civil War. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to brown, showing wear, handling marks, and small spots of light pitting. Cyl. has weakly visible scene. Trigger guard has cleaned appearance. Grips have added varnish over wear & handling marks. Lightly pitted bore retains weak rifling. Action is out of time. (01-24546/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
