Title: NAMIKI: Goose and Pink Flower Limited Edition Maki-e Fountain Pen
Place Published: Japan
Publisher:
Date Published: 2002
Description: Flat-top vest pen with gold-plated cap band, a design motif harkening to Namiki's earliest and most prized masterworks. The decoration, in burnished togidashi maki-e and raised takamaki-e, depicts a goose and pink blossoms, both traditional Japanese motifs. Signed by the artist (kanji unknown). Broad 18K gold #5 nib. Outer box, lacquer display box, ink bottle, leather pen sleeve, booklet, service guide, certificate of authenticity. Limited Edition: 65/83. Excellent condition, not inked.
"An exact replica of a model created in the 1930s, its main subject is a goose. It emanates vivacity and charm, like a character straight out of a children's story.... Although the collector's eye is drawn to the charming web-footed fowl, I would like you to look at the bouquet of superb carnations, which, I feel, brings poetry and freshness to the composition. Clearly identifiable by their narrow pink petals, these nadeshiko, fringed pink, are symbols of autumn and gentle first love. Japanese literature has many references to this flower."
– Christophe Larquemin, The Four Seasons of Namiki. Velvet: 2009.***********************
