18th Century Large Portrait In the Style of Thomas Gainsbourough 1727-1788. Thomas Gainsborough (baptized May 14, 1727, Sudbury, Suffolk, Eng. —died August 2, 1788, London) was a portrait and landscape painter, the most versatile English painter of the 18th century. This is a very large oil on canvas painting depicting a English Gentlemen with a beautiful landscape surrounding. It is unsigned but has a plaque at the bottom middle of the ornate frame with artist name, date of birth and death. There is some damage to the canvas in a few spots (see pics). The painting appears to have been relined. It measures H 59" x W 49" x D 3". The frame shows age with some chips and wear. Please refer to all photos. Overall in good condition commensurate with age.
