Description
[AFRICAN AMERICANA - EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Half plate group portrait featuring 20 family members and 2 African American nannies.
Half plate tintype (some scratches and other surface abrasions/imperfections to image, light crazing; unsealed.) Housed in a leatherette case (spine separated, one edge nearly fully separated, partial repair with tape).

Adults and children of various ages and dispositions pose in and around a studio prop row boat. The two African American subjects sit on the ground, which appears to be covered with sand, each holding a child in her lap. Two dogs are also featured in the portrait, lying in the sand at either end of the boat.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
