Description
The Funeral Procession of Arthur, Duke of Wellington. London: Samuel Henry Alken and George Augustus Sala, 1852. Each panel measures 5 x 14 inches; Hand-colored aquatint dissected into 48 (out of a total of 56) linen-backed panels, the panel depicting Wellington's funeral car folding upwards extending the image. Lacks eight panels, the panorama has been split into eight parts of eight panels each, with pinholes at corners, occasional spotting and uneven toning, sold as is.
At around sixty-six feet long when complete, this is one of the longest panoramas ever published. The Duke of Wellington's funeral, held on November 18th, 1852, was one of the few state funerals afforded to a non-royal and was one of the grandest held in nineteenth-century Britain.
