Signed on the rack "Carpenter & Westley 24, Regent St., London", original lacquered brass, concave single mirror, spring tension stage with rack-and-pinion focusing, overall height 11 ½ in., with 1 eyepiece, 4 combinable objectives, stage bull's-eye condenser, tweezers, stage forceps and 3 bone specimen slides with manuscript description, with original paper "A Description of the Improved Compound and Single Pocket Microscope", in fitted mahogany case with lift-out tray, inner lid lined with purple velvet. Size 6 ½ x 4 ½ x 1 ¾ in.
