Description
Native American, United States, Southwestern Virginia, Archaic to Woodland period, ca. 5000 BCE to 500 CE (7000 to 1500 BP). A great collection of 32 hand-knapped stone projectile points. Each piece is formed by knapping and flaking the point with a harder stone to the desired shape. Included in this collection of several identified forms: Iddins, Gypsy, Morrow Mountain, Savannah River, Guilford, and Pickwick. The stemmed necks were useful for hafting the points onto wooden shafts. The knapped points are black chert, gray chert, and quartzite. Size of largest point: 3.78" L x 2" W (9.6 cm x 5.1 cm); size of case: 14.75" L x 1.5" W x 10.125" H (37.5 cm x 3.8 cm x 25.7 cm)
