Thomas Maybe Reid was an American writer who served as a soldier in the Mexican-American War. While much better known for his writings, much of his content inspiration came from his travels throughout the Americas. Reid was also inspired by the adventure novels of Robert Louis Stevenson, especially those reminiscing Colonial America and the lives of Native American Indian tribes. One of his best works was written while on a white-buffalo hunting trip on the American prairies. “Odd People”, as it is called, describes the people of various native tribes in the Americas, many with impressive illustrations.
