Description
Ambrotype pinback badge with Lincoln portrait after Brady. 2.5 x 2.125 in. Boston: George Clark, Jr. & Co., [1860]. Manufacturer's information printed to card inserted on reverse under legend "For President. Hon. Abraham Lincoln."

Important ambrotype pinback campaign badge of Abraham Lincoln- one of the very few survivors originally produced by George Clark Jr. and distributed during the 1860 election. Widely considered by collectors one of the most sought-after photographic campaign pieces in American history, these relatively large (2.5 x 2.125 inch) portrait badges were taken from Mathew Brady’s “Cooper Union” photograph of Lincoln captured in February of 1860.

Like many of the other known examples, this piece’s glass plate is fractured. However, Lincoln is still quite legible. Clark’s original insert card on verso is worn but complete.
