Russell Conwell Hoban (1925-2011) was a British-American writer. His works span many genres, including fantasy, science fiction, mainstream fiction, magical realism, poetry, and children's books. He lived in London from 1969 until his death.
In the 1960s, Hoban wrote exclusively for children, and came to be known best for the series of seven picture books that feature Frances, a temperamental badger girl whose escapades were based partly on the experiences of his four children, Phoebe, Brom, Esme and Julia, and their friends.
Lillian Hoban (1925-1998) was an American illustrator and children's writer best known for picture books created with her husband Russell Hoban. In all, the Hobans collaborated on at least twenty-seven children's books between 1964 and 1972.
