With lessons on practice and perseverance, this is the perfect beginning reader for kids who love baseball. Full of charming illustrations and simple text by Leonard Kessler, this Level Two I Can Read is for readers who have begun reading on their own, but still need a little help.

Bobby loves baseball. He can run the bases fast. He can slide. He can catch the ball. But he has never hit the ball. A lucky bat won’t do the trick—though with hard work and determination, Bobby might just hit a home run.

Leonard Kessler (1920-2022) was an American children's book author and illustrator. Beginning in the 1950s, he wrote and illustrated over 200 hundreds of children's books for early readers.

"Leonard Kessler credited his long and prolific career in part to his grandmother, a painter who gifted him a box of crayons when he was 6, declaring that with them, "you can paint your own world." As a college student in Pittsburgh, Mr. Kessler befriended future pop artist Andy Warhol. Kessler later found his own calling in children's literature, that magical genre offering young readers an introduction to the written word, an explanation of life around them and a glimpse of the universe beyond it."

"It's all right to be different in this world. You don't have to be like everybody else." [Leonard Kessler}
