including: London, England, mid 19th Century, stamped H. J. HILLS LONDON, a Holmes-type metrotome, steel with ebony handles – 36cm. (length); English, 19th Century, indistinct maker’s mark … STREET BOROUGH … (possibly Hills of King, Street, Borough, London), steel with screw and wing nut mechanism, ebony handles with personalised cross hatch pattern – 38cm. (length) Note: A metrotome is an instrument for cutting or scarifying the uterus or the neck of the uterus. Both previously bought at David Stanley Auctions 28th July 2004 (Lot 316).
