First Edition.Rare first edition of this booklet on the Big Trees, presenting information on the Lower and Upper Groves with the list of all the trees with the height and circumference of each, plus a table of altitudes at Yosemite Valley first compiled by Captain Wheeler. The photographs are of the Wawona tree with horses being ridden through the tunnel in its trunk; Guardian's Cabin at Big Trees; Yosemite Valley from Inspiration Point; Vernal Falls; Grizzly Giant; and "Wawona Hotel - enroute to Yosemite Valley - An Ideal Summer Home." OCLC lists only two copies if this 1906 edition, dated with a rubberstamp on the first page of text, at the California State Library and the Denver Public Library. There is also one copy of a 30-page 1908 edition listed, and a greater number from 1910 with 32 pages. One may theorize that the 1908 listing, at Yale, is the product of a typographical error or two (30 pages does not add up), and it could be a third copy of this 1906 edition.

Some soiling to wrappers, wear at spine, rust stains from the staples to gutter margins; very good.
