Description: 17 pp. Folding lithographed map. (8vo) 22.5x14 cm (8¾x5½"), removed from larger volume with remains of stitching on spine. Senate Ex. Doc. No. 110, 32d Congress, 1st Session. First Edition.Early examination of the southern Central Valley of California, and the area of the southern mines. The map is titled "Reconnaissance of the Tulares Valley made by order of Brev. Brig. Gen. Riley, commanding 10th Mil. Dept. by Lieut. G.H. Derby, Topl. Engrs. April and May 1850." It measures 37.5x46.5 cm (14¾x18¼"). It shows Monterey Bay and the area to the south and east of it as far as the Sierra Nevada and Walker's Pass. Warren Heckrotte, in his notes for the copy PBA offered in the sale of his collection, says that the map "shows a town called Warsaw near where Fresno is now. No record of Warsaw in Gudde's books."
