This dark blue transferware Staffordshire Jug shows an image (on both sides) of a young girl getting water at a well: “Rebecca at the Well” from the Biblical story is the title. In addition to the transfers on the sides, the jug is heavily decorated with flower, including a transfer strip on the inside of the rim and on the handle. It was made by Clews and is marked with the Clews printed mark on the bottom and dates c. 1820. It is 6” tall and 8” from handle to spout. Except for one tiny chip on the tip of the spout (you have to tilt the jug back to see it), the piece is in very fine (or better) condition, with no other blemishes. You have to love Rebecca’s little dog waiting patiently behind her.
