copper-plate engraving from the first encyclopedia of the Americas (Schwartz and Ehrenberg, The mapping of America, Harry N. Abrams, 1980, p.118.).
Depicting the fortified entrance to the harbor with a large chain blocking the entrance between a fort on the right and a tower at center. There is a second fort to the left of the tower. A large warship dominates the lower left corner with other smaller boats in the outer harbor. Also shows a city along the waterfront of the inner harbor where many ships are docked; among the buildings are many spires and a cathedral. The city is reaching the foothills in the background.
