A GOLD ORNAMENTAL FITTING
Probably Tang Dynasty
Decorated in repoussé with a curved rectangular flowerspray panel, with a band of beaded ruyi heads below each suspending freely moving openwork flower heads with decorative knots below, testing as 16ct gold.

The decorative beading and ruyi patterns of the present piece relate to a pair of hairpin finials illustrated in C.W. Kelley, Chinese Gold and Silver in American Collections: Tang Dynasty, A.D. 618-907, Dayton Art Institute, 1984, cat. no. 4, p. 38, which are dated Tang against hairpins found at Hanshenzhai dated AD 750 referenced therein.

Condition
The upper panel has four piercings likely for attachment. The gold is slightly warped. Some of the pendant attachments are unconnected with some losses.
