Description


PROVENANCE:
from the Estate of Senior Chief Petty Officer Aviation Engineer Thomas Clanton, USN Ret., (1935-2019), of Scout Trace, Blairsville and a former lifelong resident of Sarasota, FL. The son of the late Willard Clanton and the late Karen Clanton. Tom was a veteran of the US Navy having given thirty years of service for his country. While in the USN he was stationed in Olongapo Philippines and at Ching Chaun Kang Air Base in Taiwan flying aboard the P3 Orion. The P3 was used for anti-submarine operations and as reconnaissance missions. Since then, Tom begins fascinated and collecting many Oriental Chinese Antiques and Fine Arts.

Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Longqing Wucai dragon porcelain yenyen Vase. Stoutly potted Chinese porcelain unto a baluster body with over hung flared mouth, and prominent foot base. All reserved in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the Wucai design color. Wucai or five-color shades and tones, brightly painted in Wucai design, Opaque colors around the exterior, between the filling motif decorated in colorful motif. The dome lid, The foot base rim, and exterior side adorned with two snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds, vapor above thrashing Li-Shui waves in a red and blue color dragon squama rounded the rectangles medallion to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames, enclosed with double fine blue rings lines. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-Shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The foot rim reveals the cut edges during the making process, and the base left unglazed with grayish creme-brown ground and dark spots of firing marks. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. Mark on under base, a horizontal six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine rings, Made in the Year ofLongqing Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
