Description
'The Apple Pickers'. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated '14' lower right corner. Note: Heyligers was born to Dutch Parents in Batavia, now part of Indonesia, in 1877. He studied in Paris, Munich and The Hague. At the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was a student in the studio of Fernand Cormon who taught the rigorous methods and techniques of the Old Masters. Under his tutelage, Heyligers became influenced by the intimate informality of the seventeenth century Dutch School of which he subsequently became a champion and latter-day exponent. For the last thirty years of his life, Heyligers taught painting at the School of Fine Arts in The Hague. Property of a Thornwood, NY estate. Dimensions: 32" h x 25.50" w. Frame: 42" h x 36" w.
