Erwim And Estelle Laverne (American, 1915-1997) for Formes Nouvelles Lucite And Polished Aluminum Ca. 1960, "Champagne Chairs", Set of 8 | with makers mark to the underside. the Laverne tandem is formed by Erwine, who studied art and sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago, and Estelle, who studied fashion design and fabric design at New York University. Together they began their career in interior design, working for Estelle's furniture and interior design boutique in New York. As seen in the "Champagne" chairs, the couple's style is distinguished by the use of organic shapes and abstract patterns, as well as the incorporation of materials such as wood, glass, metal and leather. Provenance: Property from the Estate of Dr. Selma Q. Viella, a prominent Mid Century Design collector, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
