Native American / First Nations, New York / Canada, Ontario, Iroquois, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A corn husk doll figure wearing a wood mask that represents the spirits of initiates of the False Face Society, a medicine society. The cornhusks are tightly coiled over a wood or wire frame, and then dressed in leather, yarn, beadwork, cotton garments with fur trim on the mask. This figure is depicted prostrate during a ceremony with a birchbark rattle and wood staff. The underside of the wood base has an indiscernible first initial and the surname: "Skye / 1922-1980 / Iroquois." Size: 8.25" L x 4" W x 4" H (21 cm x 10.2 cm x 10.2 cm)
