Europe, Medieval Period, ca. 10th to 14th century CE. An interesting copper ornament comprised of two wires twisted together and hammered flat. The thick wires are tightly twisted at both ends to create broad tips, and the central connecting section is loosely wrapped around itself. This piece was likely used as a brooch or fibula for securing clothing. Size: 4.25" L x .5" W (10.8 cm x 1.3 cm)
Provenance: ex-estate of John Piscopo, San Diego, California, USA, 1990s or earlier. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
