Francois-Michel de Roziere (French, 1775-1842). Six hand-colored copper engravings from H.N. Mineralogie, published in Paris, 1809-1828. A wonderful ensemble of six hand-colored copper engravings from Francois-Michel de Roziere's contribution to Napoleon's "Description de L'Egypte" - the volume entitled "Mineralogie". These include plates 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 and 9 . Each is from a large deluxe edition with vivid imagery and hand coloring and would contribute to Europe's passion for Egypt or as some have called it "Egyptomania". Size (sheets): 28" L x 21.25" W (71.1 cm x 54 cm)

Francois-Michel de Roziere was a French minerologist and mining engineer. Upon graduating from the School of Mines, de Roziere became an assistant mineralogist to Egypt for Napoleon's scientific expedition of 1798. A turn of events occurred nine monts later, when his superior Deodat de Dolomieu became ill and had to leave the expedition. Roziere who was only 23 at the time was then promoted to chief mineralogist. After collecting and cataloguing mineral samples throughout Egypt, he returned to Paris in 1801 and led efforts to write the volume on minerals for the scientific report of Napoleon's expedition entitled 'Description de l'Egypte' (1809-28). Interestingly, this would be his sole scholarly contribution.
