A Pair Of 16-Bore Flintlock Holster Pistols By Rob.t Harvey Of London, Early 18th Century With three-stage barrels (light pitting) each turned at the girdles, border engraved tangs grooved for sighting and each decorated with foliage, border engraved rounded locks each signed in capitals and decorated with foliate scrollwork, cocks en suite (top of one cock repaired or replaced), figured full stocks (both fore-stocks partly replaced) each with raised drop-shaped apron around the barrel tang, mounts comprising steel side-plates each chiselled as a foliate scroll, chiselled foliate escutcheons each engraved with owner's monogram, silver border engraved spurred pommels each cast and chased with a grotesque mask centred on a foliate border, steel trigger-guards each with foliate finial, turned baluster ramrod-pipes, and horn-tipped ramrods each with iron worm, London proof marks and Harvey's barrelsmith's mark (indistinct) (2) 26.8 cm. and 27 cm. barrels Footnotes: Robert Harvey was apprenticed to Henry Anthonison and turned over to John Dafte in 1691. He was made free of the Gunmakers' Company in 1701, and was elected Master in 1725.
