An English Silver-Mounted Hunting Hanger London Britannia Hallmarks For 1697, Maker's Mark Of William Knight With curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point and incised with crucifix and fleur-de-lys mark on each side at the forte, hilt comprising lightly engraved fluted quillon-block with downbent rear quillon, the terminal cast as a flower-head on both sides, knuckle-guard with flower-head between petals against a finely punched ground on each side, the terminal en suite and hooked into the pommel-cap, the latter with shaped border and embossed with cherub's head and florets against a punched ground, large compressed button with punched and moulded border, and agate grip (old fractures at the base) of tapering octagonal section, in its black hard leather scabbard with silver locket (probably later) and chape en suite with the hilt 50.3 cm. blade Footnotes: For information regarding William Knight see Leslie Southwick, London Silver-hilted Swords..., 2001, p. 160 This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium.
