1776 Dunlap Printing of Financial Deed, Same Year as Printing of Declaration of Independence
Partially printed DS
A 1776-dated financial bond printed by John Dunlap. 1 sheet, measuring 6.5" x 16.5", [Philadelphia], dated March 6, 1776. A ?12 bond between Ralph and Andrew Bogle of Cumberland County and Robert Semple, High Sheriff of Cumberland County. Ralph Bogle was also ordered to appear before the Justices of Cumberland County on April 23 to answer to William Curry on a plea of trespass. With docketing on verso. Flattened folds with some repairs made on verso to separations. Toning throughout with darker toning at the edges and folds. Scattered foxing. Overall very good.
John Dunlap (1747-1812) was an early American printer who was the first to print the initial broadside of the American Declaration of Independence this same year. He served in the Revolutionary War but would remain one of the most successful Irish American printers of his time.
