Description
Ancient Eastern Mediterranean / Western Anatolia, Phoenicia, ca. 6th to 2nd century BCE. A lovely, mold-made terracotta votive figurine representing Tanit, the Phoenician goddess invoked for fertility, rain in times of drought, and worshipped as a sky goddess who ruled over the celestial realm. Holding a baby in one arm, the goddess is draped in a lengthy, hooded robe that cascades down her slender body as she stands atop an integral pedestal. Traces of ancient pigment additionally adorn the surface of this elegant figure. Size: 1.3" L x 2.1" W x 7" H (3.3 cm x 5.3 cm x 17.8 cm); 7.8" H (19.8 cm) on included custom stand.
