Iris flowers have been known to man since ancient times. On the island of Crete, a fresco in the palace of Knossos depicts a priest surrounded by blooming irises. This fresco is about 4,000 years old. And in Ancient Egypt, they grew these flowers as early as the 16th and 15th centuries B.C., and they were a symbol of eloquence there. In Arabia they were a symbol of thoughtfulness and contemplation. In the Middle Ages, irises grew in the gardens of castles and monasteries, from where they transferred to the gardens of city dwellers.

Iris flower got its name from the famous healer Hippocrates, who named the plant after the ancient Greek goddess Iris, who proclaimed the will of the Olympian gods to people. An interesting fact is that in Japan, iris protected people's homes from harmful influences. Its character translates as the spirit of a warrior, even the leaves of the plant resemble samurai swords.
The sculptor has long dreamed of preserving this fragile beauty by capturing it in a timeless material. Laconicism, purity of line, plasticity - all this without excesses in one flower, on which the viewer's gaze stops. Beautiful, light and fresh composition "Iris" by Pyotr Ozyumenko won in the category "Best Interior Jewelry of the Year" at the Jeweler's exhibition in Odessa (2018).
