Description
This is a beautiful, double page map of France's Burgundy area and western Switzerland. Burgundy is known for its production of wine, fully engraved with mountains, forests and fortifications. Key cities shown include Besancon, Dole, and Geneva (Geneve). Extremely detailed overall, the map shows topography, rivers, forests, farmland, tiny villages, walled cities, etc. The large, decorative title cartouche features a Queen supporting the Royal coat of arms of France, plus putti engaged in wine-making, and a river god spilling a vessel of water to symbolize the rivers of the region.
