Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand & Indonesia, Bali or Java, ca. late 20th to 21st century CE; Latin America, Mexico / Guatemala, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A collection of 5 hand-carved wooden festival masks from several regions. The white face with fish and snakes is Latin American, made from a light balsa wood, and appears older, perhaps from the late 19th to early 20th century. The other 4 are modern; the peacock and face with a horsehair wig a are both from Indonesia, and the flatter wood masks of an elephant and warrior are from the Hill Tribes of Thailand and made as wall decorations. Size of Mexican mask: 9" L x 6.75" W (22.9 cm x 17.1 cm); peacock: 15" L x 13" W (38.1 cm x 33 cm)

Condition
Mexican mask has staining to pigments and wood patina, craquelure to painted areas. Asian Masks are more modern and are sale items with sticker labels on the interior. Three have hooks for suspension. Chips and abrasions to surfaces, but overall great pre-owned condition.
