Description
Made for the George Brown Company. Forestville, Connecticut - Circa 1870. The collection of Edith & Barney Barenholtz. Barney and Edith Barenholtz acquired the George Brown sketchbook in the 1960's. This extraordinary book contained dozens of original sketch pages that both illustrated and chronicled the prodigious design output that took place at the George Brown Company. This was the very first glimpse that toy collectors had into the complex world of tin toy manufacturing in the late 19th century. The discovery of the book was heralded as a major finding. And so, Edith set out to recreate a magnificent facsimile copy of the sketchbook. It was a crowning achievement for her as she finished her goal just months before she died in 1975. This particular sketch is perhaps the very most significant from the entire book.
