"Although published decades ago, this book remains the best source on the story of the Shenandoah in wonderful detail. Written in part like a novel, you learn about the lives and feelings of the ship's crew and others closely involved with this rigid airship. The construction and operation of the airship are covered in detail and the numerous pictures help the reader fully understand the intricacies of flying this complex lighter than air vehicle.

The description of the crash is riveting, told from the perspective of a number of the survivors. The author puts you in the ship on that stormy night as the Shenandoah's crew struggled to control the ship in the turbulent winds that awful night.

The author's interviews with the crew, witnesses on the ground, family members and others with first-hand knowledge of the Shenandoah make this book an excellent source of information on this famous airship. A few shortcomings in the writing style and organization are minor factors when compared with the wealth of intimate knowledge the author provides." [a private review]
