Wood hilt with expanded guard and pommel. Iron blade of the unique recurved form with thumb-shaped terminal unique to these. Hilt shows a little wear with glossy patina and age encrustation. Blade with raised storage rusting. Probably served in the Mahdist War of 1885 where the Fuzzy Wuzzies, as the British called them, fought so valiantly that they were described as the fiercest opponents that the English had faced.
