A RUSSIAN LACQUER SNUFF BOX, LUKUTIN, CIRCA 1860

Lot 0251

Description

A RUSSIAN LACQUER SNUFF BOX, LUKUTIN, CIRCA 1860. The hinged lid finely painted with a scene of a family at the market, the interior in faux tortoise shell and Lukutin mark beneath the Imperial Warrant, 3 inches x 2 inches (7.8 x 5.2 cm). This item was acquired by the consignor from the noted exhibition, “Russian Lacquer Art From Two Centuries”, Museum For Lacquer Art, Münster, Germany, May 11, 1995-January 4, 1996. Furthermore, all of the items were published and many illustrated in the extensive 120 page color exhibition catalog. The Museum of Lacquer Art in Münster, at which these items were exhibited, is still operating in the heart of the city and displays a globally unique collection of lacquer art from East Asia, Europe and the Islamic world with objects from the past two millennia. The museum places an additional main emphasis on research, with publications such as “Russian Lacquer Art From Two Centuries” not only presenting the exhibitions, but leading to new findings in research.
