1998's cult classic "Small Soldiers" was a delightful, if prophetic story of what happens when innocents (toys), meet evil technology! The highlight was the "augmented" toy action figures, known as the Commando Elite and The Gorgonites. They were created by the legendary Stan Winston Studios. Many variations of each figure were made for various filming duties. The "hero' figures were built with elaborate animatronics mechanisms to realistically move (operated by cable and remote control by puppeteers). There were also "stunt" figures for action sequences, background figures (when they didn't have to move), and even detailed "stand in's", that were used for lightening and setting up shots. These are two production made and used Insaniac figures. The first is made of latex, and was used for stunt and other production duties. The second is made of hard model plastic, and was used for background work, inserts, and stand-in duties. Note that its right foot is made of latex. The hard plastic version is in pieces, and was perhaps crafted to easily come apart. However it can be easily glued back into one piece if desired. The Latex version is missing some of its "dreadlocks", and the hard model plastic version has had all its dreadlocks removed. Both stand approx. 13" high.
