James McCabe Bracket Clock: A Georgian double fusee bell striking 8 day bracket clock with its original verge escapement, pull repeat facility and 5 pillar movement with an 8" diameter convex white dial with moon style hand in its original mahogany case, the case has pierced brass side fret and brass ogee feet and stands 14" high ( excluding the brass swing handle) The name James Mc Cabe, London is shown on the dial and also engraved in a cartouche on the back plate of the movement. (G.H. Baillie in watchmaker and clocks of the world (volume 1) shows James Mc Cabe to have been working there from 1781 until his death in 1811. He worked both in Cheapside and the Royal Exchange, London and is described as a "very fine maker"). With Provenance: £2000 - 3000
