Description
This expanded and historically significant archive consists of twelve distinct paper groupings of "TOP SECRET - BIGOT" intelligence documents, almost exclusively dated April and May 1944. Many of these documents likely refer to Operation Tiger, a major full-scale rehearsal for Utah Beach assault during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Conducted From April 22nd through the 30th 1944 it involved around 30,000 American troops from U.S. Force “U” which was part of the 7th core. The location was slapped in sands in Devon, England, chosen because of its gravel beach, backing land, and nearby lagoon that closely resembled Utah beach in Normandy’s Cotentin peninsula. This exercise simulated every phase from embarkation to channel crossing to naval bombardment and amphibious landing using live ammunition for realism under general Dwight D Eisenhower’s orders. Exercise tiger encountered multiple failures including friendly fire an attack of German E boats on the nights of April 27th and 28th with the sinking of several LST's period overall there is a accepted figure of 749 American servicemen that were killed in the operation comma much more than we're actually killed on the Utah beach invasion of the Normandy coast period. The value of this operation is immense in that it allowed allied forces to learn from these costly mistakes and make the invasion of the Normandy coast a success. The documents in this grouping, served as the essential tactical foundation for the final planning phase of Operation NEPTUNE, issued to high-ranking personnel just weeks before the June 6th invasion. The archive features an impressive array of intelligence, including technical bulletins on German "E-Boat" tactics, "Marder" midget submarines, and the Henschel Hs 293 radio-controlled glider bomb, complete with instructional sketches. Crucially, the collection includes detailed diagrams of "Atlantic Wall" beach defenses like "Czech Hedgehogs" and "Belgian Gates," which were vital for the demolition teams clearing paths for the landing craft. Also present are the specific Task Organization orders for Assault Force "U" (Utah Beach) under Rear Admiral Don P. Moon, logistical data for "Mulberry" artificial harbors, hourly tide tables, and medical evacuation plans for "ineffectives." A hallmark of their extreme sensitivity and restricted distribution is the presence of individual serialization; many of these documents bear low-digit control numbers such as 000126, 000119, 00144, 00047, 000134, 00611, 00158, and 00191. Because the "BIGOT" security classification was even higher than Top Secret—granted only to those with specific knowledge of the D-Day date and location—these documents were printed in extremely small batches and often carried strict mandates for their immediate destruction following use. This rare survival of operational intelligence provides an unfiltered look at the immense complexity and secrecy of the Allied assault. The collection is in fair to good vintage condition, exhibiting expected age-toning, minor peripheral edge wear, foxing, and oxidation from original staples consistent with 80-year-old field intelligence. Some of the documents may be missing pages. Four groupings of documents measure H 10.5" x W 8.5" and eight groupings of documents measure H 13.5" x W 8.5". 1) Serial: 000126. Dated 30 May 1944.
