SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL, WITH MATCHING MAGAZINE. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 8791m. Bbl. 4". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser in 1938 for the German military. Top of the bbl. extension is marked with the 4-digit year of mfg. "1938", with Mauser Eagle/63 proofs marked on the right. Toggle is marked with Mauser's "S/42" mfg. code. Metal components exhibit a salt blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Dovetailed blade front sight, with fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the rear toggle pin. Grips are unnumbered and are devoid of Mauser proofs. MAGS: 1 blue 8-rd. mag., with matching aluminum bottom marked "8791/ m/ +" above a Mauser Eagle/63 proof. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original arsenal salt blue finish, exhibiting wear and thinning that shows through to gray patina, with scattered spots/areas of light to mild pitting present overall. Grip straps retain a dull gray patina, with consistent light to mild pitting. Fair bore, exhibiting consistent mild pitting and scattered areas of dark pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show smoothing, as well as scattered superficial marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Left grip exhibits a chip in the usual area, on the top right corner of the panel beside the safety lever. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-456/MLW). CURIO. $1,200-1,500.
