Description
PROBABLY ITALIAN. Cal. 45 (all). S# NSN. Three nested round barrels mount in base plate and are contained by yoke toward muzzles. Each barrel can be hand turned into battery by depressing lever hinged in trigger plate. With lever released barrels lock into position. Touch hole is in circular breech iron which has some geometric and floral engraving. It appears that pan must be charged for each shot. Back spring flint lock has integral rounded pan and unbridled frizzen with striking plate that rotates to the right for easier access to pan while priming. Feather spring has foliate finial. Lock has rounded plate and round bodied serpentine cock; plate is scroll engraved at tail. Dense burl European walnut stock with steel capped knob grip has nicely carved mouldings around lock and top tang which terminate in relief scrolls. A rack or inventory number "36" is carved at top of grip. Ramrod (missing) would mount through loop in front yoke and small recess on base plate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: auction listing with handwritten notation that this pistol sold for about $6,500. CONDITION: good. Metal with old cleaning is silver to gray. Stock is good with many marks in original finish. Bores are good with light pitting. Mechanically good, except spring for strike plate of frizzen is weak. A very interesting early pistol. (01-26949/MGM). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
