PISTOL. Cal. 40 Smoothbore. NSN. Bbls. 3 9/16". Attractive SxS percussion pistol, possibly of Belgian origin. Pistol is devoid of any identifying proofs. Bbls. feature a twisting foliate lacquer applied pattern, with foliate scrollwork on the frame. 1-piece dark plain wood grip, featuring wire and pearl foliate inlays on either side, wavy line wire inlays on the "ears", as well as wavy line and small circular pearl inlays around the edge of the butt. Straight right trigger, with curved left trigger. CONDITION: bbls. and hammers retain trace to fair amounts of their blue finish, with the balance having acquiring a gray patina. Frame has faded to a gray patina, exhibiting scattered spots of light surface oxidation and pitting, with losses to the lacquer applied embellishments. Trigger guard exhibits a reapplied blue finish, with some mild pitting beneath the bluing. Proper manual mechanics. Grip shows some superficial handling marks, as well as some cracking to its varnish finish. (01-27883/MLW). ANTIQUE. $700-1,000.
