SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER WITHOUT EJECTOR ROD. Cal. 45 LC. S# 124487. Bbl. 4 11/16" (1/16" of an inch shorter than standard, although the bbl. shows no signs of having been shortened). First Generation Single Action Army revolver mfg. by Colt in 1887. Top of the bbl. is marked with Colt's 2-line address. Left side of the frame is marked with (mostly legible) Colt's 3-line patent information. Left side of forward trigger guard web is marked "45 CAL" ("45" marked on underside of bbl. towards breech). Metal components exhibit an older reapplied nickel plated finish overall. Frame is mounted with a 1-piece plain natural white grip. Frame and bbl. were mfg. without provisions for a ejector rod housing assembly. Standard SAA pattern blade front sight and frame notched rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, trigger guard, and rear grip strap. Frame, cyl., trigger guard, and rear grip strap match via apparent assembly # "14". Loading gate is numbered "5238" in the usual assembly # area, and additionally marked "14" towards the hinge. Cyl. bushing is a blued replacement. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their older reapplied nickel plated finish which has acquired a cloudy appearance, exhibiting some superficial handling marks and a couple small spots of light flaking showing through to dark oxidation. Bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots and patches of mild pitting, as well as a patch of moderate pitting towards the muzzle, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Natural white grip has acquired a pleasing yellowed appearance, showing some superficial handling marks and checking overall. Left side of grip exhibits a small area of dark discoloration in corresponding area of grip strap flaking and oxidation. (01-28192/MLW). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
