ACTION ARMY FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER REVOLVER. Cal. 44 CF (44-40 WCF). S# 103006. Bbl. 5 1/8". First Generation black powder frame Single Action Army Frontier Six Shooter mfg. by Colt in 1884. Left side of the bbl. is blank (acid etched panel has worn off), with Colt's single line address marked across the top, and "44" marked on the underside towards the breech. Left side of the frame is marked with Colt's 3-line patent information. Left side of the forward trigger guard web is marked "44.C.F.". Frame is mounted with a 1-piece wood grip, featuring an oblong natural white insert on either side, with an additional triangular natural white insert also present on the left. Grip has been sanded and refinished at one time. Bbl. has been shortened, with the front sight having been removed. Standard frame notched rear sight. Oval type ejector rod head. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, cyl. (side), trigger guard, and rear grip strap. Bbl. is unnumbered. CONDITION: metal components have faded to a mottled gray patina, showing scattered scratches and superficial handling marks, with light to mild pitting present overall. Bore is relatively bright, exhibiting consistent mild pitting, while retaining good, albeit worn rifling throughout. Action is worn, with the hammer not setting in the rearmost position, but otherwise exhibiting proper manual mechanics, with slight cyl. play. Cyl. base pin bushing exhibits a notable chip. Grip show scattered superficial handling marks, several intentionally cut lines, as well as a chip on the left side above the triangular inlay, but otherwise remains sound. Inlays exhibit a pleasing yellowed patina. (01-26693/MLW). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
